How to use this free mood tracker

  1. Step 1

    Pause

Take one breath and notice what is present before searching for the perfect label.

  2. Step 2

    Choose

Pick Tough, Low, Okay, Good, or Great—the closest option is enough.

  3. Step 3

    Add context

Select parts of the day such as sleep, work, movement, people, or quiet time if they feel relevant.

  4. Step 4

    Leave a note

Write one concrete detail you may want to remember, or leave the note empty.

  5. Step 5

    Save and revisit

Your check-in joins the recent list and the browser-based mood calendar.

A five-point mood scale keeps the check-in light

The five labels are intentionally broad. “Tough” and “Low” are not bad grades, while “Good” and “Great” are not goals you have to maintain. They are simply shortcuts for what you chose to record in one moment. If two labels seem equally close, either one can be useful.

Context can be more informative than the number alone. A low-energy day after short sleep may feel different from a quiet, restorative day. The activity tags and note help preserve that nuance without pretending to explain cause and effect.

Look for questions, not verdicts

Helpful reflection

  • What supported me on days I marked Good?
  • What context keeps appearing beside low-energy days?
  • Which details do I want to remember next week?

What the record cannot prove

A few entries cannot establish why a mood changed, predict what comes next, or measure your overall wellbeing. The record is partial because it contains only the moments and labels you chose.

Browser privacy and storage

This frontend-only mood tracker stores entries locally in your browser. Mood Check-In does not receive the mood, note, date, or activity choices you enter here. There is no account and no cloud backup. Anyone with access to this browser profile may be able to view its saved entries, so consider your device and browser privacy settings before writing sensitive details.

Helpful answers

Frequently asked questions

Is this online mood tracker free?
Yes. You can record, edit, review, and delete daily check-ins in this browser without paying, downloading an app, or creating an account.
Where are my mood entries saved?
Entries are saved in local storage inside the browser you are using. They are not sent to Mood Check-In or synced to another browser or device. Clearing site data, using a private window, or changing browsers may remove or hide them.
Does the mood calendar use these same entries?
Yes. The free Mood Tracker and Mood Calendar read the same local browser storage, so a check-in saved here can appear in the calendar on this browser.
How often should I track my mood?
There is no required schedule. Some people check in once a day, while others record only when a moment feels worth remembering. A missing day is not a failure and does not need to be filled in later.
What should I write in a mood tracker note?
A useful note can be brief: what happened, what stood out, what you needed, or what helped. You can also leave the note empty and record only a mood.
Can an online mood tracker diagnose a mental health condition?
No. This tool records only the choices you enter and does not diagnose, assess risk, or provide treatment. Talk with a qualified professional when you need health guidance or support.
